Spirits

These are the biggest and brawniest members of the alcohol family. All are created by fermenting some kind of sugary brew into ethanol and carbon dioxide. Spirits are distilled with a higher alcohol by volume from around 20% to as high as 80 or 90%. There are craft distilleries cranking out newer, smaller brands, flavorings that make hard liquor taste like anything from jalapeño to marshmallow. You have a plethora of choices here such as vodka, gin, tequila, rum, whiskey, grappa, and so on. Who can resist their favorite drink after a hectic weekend?

Beer

The word “beer” is indeed magical – it automatically transports you to the scene of a beer pub with people holding large mugs brimming with the stunning golden fluid and foam on top, as they watch a game and cheer loudly. Beer is not a new term since time immemorial; it is one of the widely consumed and probably the oldest of all alcoholic beverages.
If you pour the beer slowly down the side of a tilted glass, a smaller head is formed, and more carbon dioxide remains dissolved in the beer. If you hold the glass upright and pour straight into the glass, more gas is released, and a larger head will form. Real aficionados will insist that different beers have different ideal pours, but it is up to you on how you want to enjoy it. Pour ale so that it has about half an inch of head, while lagers should have a larger one.

Bourbon

Bourbon is fine whiskey aged in new charred-oak barrels, and distilled to no more than 160 proof and entered into the barrel at 125. It has a delicious smooth taste, and is a favorite of hardcore whiskey drinkers. There are many movies and TV shows where characters have been prominently featured as drinking bourbon.

Wine

Wine is produced all over the world from single varietal grape selections to popular varietal blends to please almost every palate, from the novice to the seasoned wine taster. Red wine happens to be the most popular choice the world over. It is so beautifully colored due to the grape skins involved – there are so many types after all, each as diverse and vibrant as the next. There are purple, maroon, deep red, brownish red, light red, and so on.  White wines are fermented without grape skins. If the wine is unoaked, the fermented juice is racked, whereby the clear wine is removed from the sediment, and bottled. However, if the winemaker prefers an oaked style, the fermented wine is aged in barrels where malic acid (tart) is converted into lactic acid (creamy), then racked and bottled.
